Filament winding is a type of composite manufacturing process where controlled amounts of resin and oriented fibers are wound around a rotating mandrel and cured to produce the composite product.

Because of their high rigidity, reliability, and superior corrosion resistance, filament-winding process have been used for a wide variety of modern engineering applications. Typical application areas are composite shafts, pressure vessels, rocket motor cases, aircraft fuselages, wing parts, pressure pipelines. Glass or carbon fiber are the most common filaments. They are impregnated in a resin bath as they are wrapped to the mandrel.

Fibre tension is important for the operation of a filament winding process. It depends on the type of fibre, part diameter and winding pattern such as ply orientations. Main advantages of filament winding process are:

  • High fiber volume
  • Lower fiber and resin cost
  • Automated process
  • Superior mechanical properties
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Desired ply orientations

We are capable of filament winding technology and we have filament winding machines that are developed by us including mechanisms and algorithms to achieve most reliable results and desired ply orientations which affects mechanical and fiber properties.

Our filament winding machine offers:

  • Desired ply orientations
  • Own process algorithms
  • Four-axis winding
  • Own build mechanism
  • Specialized for composite shaft production

With our four-axes filament winding machine and own algorithms, we can achieve desired ply orientations for a composite shaft that are obtained through FEA analysis.
